Tutor and Author: When you or your children work with me, you know you are being taught by someone who has not only mastered the material, but in many cases written it. I have co-authored two guidebooks to the Graduate Records Exam published by the Barron's (available on Amazon.com – keyword “David Freeling”) and one SAT prep book, VocabMonster, which uses fun, full-color cartoons and creative mnemonic devices to teach advanced vocabulary. Small group lessons are available when two students join together and can be a great way to save! The rate is $110 for two-on-one lessons , which amounts to $55 per student. Tutorials cancelled less than 24 hours in advance do not leave me enough time to fill the appointment slot, so will be billed in full.
Background and Experience: I graduated from Columbia University in 1991 with a BA in mathematics and completed a year of graduate school in the Columbia University Mathematics Department in 1992. Before starting my own tutoring business, I was trained and employed by two companies for two years: The Math Set and Advantage Testing, both of Atlanta, GA. In 2004 I founded the business, Insight Tutoring of San Francisco, which I have directed until the present. I have worked with hundreds of students from public and private schools across the Bay Area, including Lowell, SOTA, Lick-Wilmerding, UC Berkeley, the San Francisco School, University High School, Saint Ignatius, and many others. For a combined 10 years, I conducted on-site, comprehensive SAT prep classes at the International High School (FAIS/IHS) and Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep.
Parent and Volunteer: I am the proud parent of three children myself and am happy to give back to the community by volunteering as a classroom tutor about two hours per week in their elementary school.
Word on the Street: I often overhear my students saying, “I learned more in one hour with David than in one week of math at school.”All lessons are taught by me personally, an educator with twenty years in the field. I have helped young people of all backgrounds to excel academically and understand tough concepts. My areas of specialty include math, English, history, and test-prep for the following exams: SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, GRE, and GMAT. Typical lessons might focus on Calculus, Algebra, basic math, reading comprehension, essay writing, or vocabulary development.
