Welcome! If you or your child are looking to excel at school or increase your understanding of fundamental concepts, you have come to the right place. I offer expert professional tutoring in the areas of math, English, history, and test-prep. I teach all lessons personally and offer dedicated one-on-one attention to help kids succeed academically. I have over twenty years of experience working with a wide range of students of all levels of abilities and backgrounds. I've helped many hundreds of students boost their grades and prepare for exams such as the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, GRE, and GMAT.
Call, text, or email me at any time to get started: [email protected] or 415-596-0248. I offer lessons in person in San Francisco or Berkeley, or anywhere in the world through online tutoring.
My students find me patient and dedicated at explaining challenging concepts from multiple perspectives. I work with all ages, with a primary focus on grades 2 through 12.
Background: I am both a tutor and author. My book VocabMonster uses creative cartoons and mnemonic devices to teach advanced English vocabulary. My book, 6 GRE Practice Tests, published by the Barron's, offers students a glimpse of what to expect on the Graduate Records Exam, and instructs them on how to ace the test. I have an undergraduate degree and a year of graduate work in mathematics from Columbia University, in New York. I worked at two professional tutoring agencies before starting my own business, Insight Tutoring of San Francisco, since rebranded as "Noe Valley Tutor." Since 2001, I've worked with students from a wide range of public and private schools throughout the Bay Area and conducted on-site, comprehensive SAT prep classes at the International High School and Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep.
Philosophy: I have always believed in making education fun and exciting. I seek to engage and motivate my students, and bring out their own curiousity and creativity.

Pricing Plans
Hourly:
Tutoring is billed at a rate of $95 per lesson, payable at or before each session. Lessons consist of one full hour of dedicated individual attention. Does not include any progress reports or assessments. A cancellation fee is assessed for any session canceled less than 24 hours in advance.
This is best for students who only need a few lessons.
Monthly:
Tutoring is billed at a rate of $90 per lesson, payable as a single monthly statement by the 10th of each month. Lessons consist of one full hour of dedicated individual attention. Does not include any progress reports or assessments. A cancellation fee is assessed for any session canceled less than 24 hours in advance.
This is best for students who know what topics they need to work on and can commit to a regular weekly appointment time, and for families who do not need to receive regular updates.
School Year Support Package:
$3200. Includes weekly tutorials over a 10 month calendar school year. Includes roughly 30 individual lessons. Families receive monthly updates and progress reports. Tutor is available to connect with parents to answer any questions or concerns, and with teachers or school guidance counselors, upon request, to receive updates on each child’s needs. A detailed file will be kept for each student, listing what topics have been covered and identifying kids’ areas of strengths and weaknesses. More flexibility is offered for kids who need to reschedule appointments due to conflicts, though one day notice is still preferred.
This is best for students whose activities may require occasional changes to their weekly appointment times, and for families seeking more feedback on how lessons are going.
Payable in four installments of $800 each, due September 1st, November 1st, January 15th, and March 15th.
Half Year Support Package:
$1650. Same as the full year package, but with half as many lessons to be given over 5 calendar months.
Parent and Mentor: I am the proud parent of three kids and seek to mentor my clients with the same empathy and concern that I show toward my own children.
Results: I often overhear my students saying, “I learned more in one hour with David than in one week of math at school.” Testimonials and references available upon request.
